FAQ

1. What size of group or combination of instruments do you recommend for my event?

In general, any combination we offer can work in virtually any setting. Factors to consider include the size of the venue, the number of guests, your personal artistic preferences, and your budget. Many wedding clients opt for a classic ensemble for ceremony and cocktail music followed by a transition to a Wired! or an MVSJ jazz band for dinner and/or reception. For a festive touch to any portion of your event, you may consider an MVSJ-affiliated mariachi ensemble.

2. Can you accommodate special music requests?

Absolutely. Custom musical arrangements can be produced for virtually any tune not already in the MVSJ music library and are available for any instrument combination.

3. Can every combination of instruments you offer play every musical selection in your repertoire?

Generally, yes. However, certain instrument combinations lend themselves more to one style than another. For example, a flute adds brightness and elegance to any ensemble, while a trumpet can provide for a truly majestic bridal entrance. Also, most pop/contemporary repertoire works optimally with the instrument combinations offered by our Wired! division.

4. When and how do we choose the music for our event?

Music selection is simple and enjoyable. We will offer you guidance immediately following receipt of contract and deposit.

5. Do you require any special equipment?

Generally, we do not. We provide our own music stands and lighting when needed. We do ask that you provide us with one armless chair per musician. MVSJ generally provides its own amplification when needed. Inquire for further details.

6. How do musicians dress for weddings and other events?

For weddings, attire is generally formal unless otherwise requested. Men wear a tuxedo and women wear formal black. During outdoor summer weddings, men may opt to wear all black, but not necessarily a tuxedo unless otherwise requested. For corporate events as well as jazz and Wired! engagements, men generally wear a dark suit with long tie. Mariachis wear traditional mariachi uniforms.

7. Will you travel outside the San Antonio - Austin area to perform?

We frequently perform for out of town events, at times as far as 250 miles from San Antonio or Austin. We accept these engagements based on availability. Mileage fee varies with distance. Concert appearances can be arranged nationally.

8. When and where can we hear MVSJ live?

Please inquire for information on upcoming public and private MVSJ events. You may also meet and interact with us at any San Antonio Symphony subscription concert or you may visit personally with Managing Director Andrew Small on Sundays at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
